Virginia Tech Softball Sweeps NC State, Extends Winning Streak to 13 Games – Dominant Victory Highlights
Virginia Tech softball is on fire, and their 13-game winning streak is proof of just how dominant they’ve become. This past weekend, the Hokies took on NC State in Raleigh, sweeping the three-game series and showing why they’re one of the hottest teams in the country.
The Hokies entered the series on a 10-game winning streak, and they wasted no time extending it. On Friday night, Virginia Tech cruised to a 10-2 victory in the series opener, thanks to stellar pitching from Emma Lemley. The Hokies followed up with a 3-0 win on Saturday, with Emma Mazzarone leading the charge in the circle. But it was Sunday’s performance that truly capped off the sweep and secured their 13th consecutive win in dominant fashion.
Virginia Tech came out strong in the finale, setting the tone with a four-run first inning. The Hokies capitalized on a mix of walks, errors, and timely hits to jump out to a commanding 4-0 lead. Kylie Aldridge sparked the rally with a ground ball that was misplayed into two runs on a throwing error, followed by another run off a Wolfpack miscue. Zoe Yaeger’s sacrifice fly added the fourth run, leaving NC State in a hole before even getting a chance to bat.
Despite a bit of early control trouble from Sophie Kleiman, the Hokies’ defense and base-running errors by NC State helped keep the game in their favor. Kleiman, along with Lemley, combined for a strong pitching performance, shutting down the Wolfpack’s offense when it mattered most.
Virginia Tech’s offense wasn’t done yet, though. In the fourth inning, Trinity Martin hit a three-run home run to push the lead to 7-0, and Michelle Chatfield followed suit in the sixth with another three-run blast, giving the Hokies a commanding 10-0 lead. With Lemley closing out the game by retiring NC State in the bottom of the sixth, Virginia Tech sealed the run-rule victory, completing the sweep and extending their winning streak to an impressive 13 games.
With their explosive offense and strong pitching, the Hokies are hitting on all cylinders, and it’s clear they’re a force to be reckoned with as they continue their march through the ACC and beyond.
