Viktor Gyokeres alternative would tick the boxes for Arsenal, insists ex-Gunners striker

Former Arsenal frontman Francis Jeffers has advised his former club to consider a Viktor Gyokeres alternative with Premier League experience.

The Gunners are believed to be targeting a striker signing before the summer transfer window closes, with Sporting CP star Gyokeres understood to be on their radar. However, the former Coventry City talisman’s £86million release clause could prove prohibitive for the north Londoners, and Sporting are under no pressure to sell considering their hitman is contracted until 2028.

In any case, Jeffers – who won two FA Cups and a Premier League title during his three-year stint at Arsenal – has suggested Mikel Arteta would be better off going for a natural scorer who’s already played in England’s top flight. And he’s tipped two names currently playing in the Premier League – Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Aston Villa hitman Ollie Watkins – as the kind of talent worth chasing.
