Tiger Woods and injuries have been a never-ending relationship. The 48-year-old had his first back surgery in 2004 and has had six of them over the last ten years. Well, it is quite obvious that with so many surgeries, the pain is likely to kick in. To avoid those, he is often spotted wearing a KT Tape. For the first time, he was seen wearing one of those during the warm-up of the 2018 British Open.
This left the golf world with a buzz, and a few moments later, KT Tape had already announced an offer on its website giving “25% off golfer’s flash sale.” By mid-afternoon, Utah time, Russ Schleiden, KT Tape’s chief marketing officer said, traffic on the site was up 300 percent. Well, the aid once popularised by Tiger Woods is still being used by pros for their events. The latest one? 2023 Ryder Cup captain!
Zach Johnson, who will be turning 49 next month was spotted wearing a KT Tape on his right arm at the 2025 Sony Open. When asked about it during the post-round presser, he said, “I’ve got tennis elbow of golf. I had some really good consultations, really good orthopedic advice, and I’ve taken so the measures that have helped.” He even stated that he had just been to the Desert Orthopedic Center in Las Vegas before he appeared in the Sony Open, and his situation was not good.
However, it has gotten better with good physios. He got an MRI done, and started paying more attention to the ‘injury’. And well, that is what has given him more relief. Of course, the KT Tape has been the cherry on the cake. “So KT tape has been working nice. I have compression braces and things like that that work okay, but the KT tape seems to be the best. I’m very encouraged. Best it’s felt in probably months, and I’m playing three weeks in a row so need to take care of it,” he said. He is set to play in the American Express and then Farmers Insurance Open after this.
Notably, after 10 years of his last win, Johnson walked off the course at Waialae Country Club in contention. Yeah, there are 36 holes to go, but to him, his game feels “great.” He said, “Haven’t really looked at the board. Based on the fact I’m doing interviews, it can’t be that bad. I’ve been encouraged with my game for months. That sounds really generic, but, again, I have, I just haven’t seen it. I haven’t competed.”
Zach Johnson did not have a great season last year. He did not even fight for it much since he wanted to watch his son play high school football. “I’m not going to miss a Friday night light,” he said. Out of the eighteen events that he had appeared in, he missed cuts in eight of them. That was not all for his miseries.
He dropped down so low on the FedEx Cup standings (162) that he failed to qualify for the playoffs. After the FedExCup Fall, players ranked 126-150 on the final FedExCup Fall Points List will earn conditional status for the 2025 PGA Tour Season. Those outside the top 125 will have the opportunity to improve or regain their status through the PGA TOUR Q-School. Even in 2024, he was playing on a top 50 career money exemption. So, he is trying hard now to solidify his place, just like before.
The 49-year-old is currently tied for the fourth position after two rounds, with an impressive 8-under. If he continues with this momentum, the 12X PGA Tour will undoubtedly be back on track. Stay tuned to find out what happens!
