Just as Aaron Wan-Bissaka was packing his bags at the weekend, he was finally missed by Manchester United. The right back has form for dozing at the far post but would almost certainly have been more vigilant than makeshift right back Facundo Pellistri was for Bernardo Silva’s equaliser.
He will never play there for England but Wembley is a home from home for the London-born Wan-Bissaka. He was United’s best player in their losing FA Cup final to Manchester City, was even better in the victorious final in May and neutered Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle and Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma there last year.
Saturday’s appetiser for the new season was a rare occasion where Wan-Bissaka’s absence was rued by United. He leaves five years on from his £50million transfer from Crystal Palace, apparently the best of the 804 right backs United scouted that summer.
