Simone Biles Is Named Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson Of The Year

Simone Biles has a new title as Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year!

The 27-year-old gymnast won several medals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, last summer — including three gold medals and one silver medal.

Sports Illustrated credited the champion for her Olympic wins and for changing the face of the sport in the Jan. 2 announcement.

Biles won four medals at the Paris Olympics in gymnastics — three gold medals and one silver medal. The gymnast has 11 Olympic medals all together.

“Simone Biles is Sports Illustrated’s 2024 Sportsperson of the Year because she won gold, and then another gold, and then another; because she changed the face of her sport and the conversations around athletes in general; because she continues to speak out about issues that matter to her. And perhaps most of all because after she wondered aloud to Chiles whether she was about to relive the darkest period of her career, she took a deep breath, she saluted the judges and she broke into a run.”
