Hokies OL Bob Schick Enters Transfer Portal, Marking Final Piece of Offensive Line Overhaul
In a move that completes Virginia Tech’s significant offensive line overhaul, Bob Schick has officially declared for the transfer portal, as reported by his agents. Schick, a veteran of 23 starts over the past two seasons, confirmed his decision on Instagram earlier this week, making it clear he will explore opportunities elsewhere after four years with the Hokies.
Schick has been a steady presence on the offensive line, appearing in 38 games throughout his career. In 2024, he earned a solid 60.7 grade from Pro Football Focus. However, by the end of spring ball, Schick appeared to be working primarily with the second team, signaling that his role had shifted heading into the upcoming season.
Schick’s exit signifies the end of an era for Virginia Tech’s offensive line, as he becomes the fifth starter from last season to leave. Kaden Moore and Parker Clements graduated, while Xavier Chaplin (to Auburn) and Braelin Moore (to LSU) transferred earlier in the offseason. This mass exodus has left new offensive line coach Matt Moore with the task of rebuilding the unit from the ground up.
To fill the gaps, Moore has brought in several key transfers from his former program at West Virginia, including Tomas Rimac, Kyle Altuner, and Lucas Austin. By the end of spring practice, the Hokies’ top seven offensive linemen appeared to be Johnny Garrett and Rimac at tackle, Layth Ghannam, Montavious Cunningham, and Brody Meadows at guard, and Altuner and Tommy Ricard at center.
Schick’s departure makes him the eighth Hokie to enter the transfer portal during this spring window, which remains open until Friday. Joining him are quarterback Davi Belfort, offensive linemen Caleb Nitta and Web Davidson, defensive lineman Jorden McDonald, linebackers Jayden McDonald and Cameren Fleming, and defensive back Braylon Johnson.
