The Boston Red Sox entered this offseason needing to retool their bullpen, and after signing a pair of left-handed free agents in Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson, they felt good enough to move on from one of their own.
On Saturday, MLB insider Robert Murray reported that the Red Sox have agreed to trade left-handed reliever Cam Booser to the Chicago White Sox. It’s unknown what Boston is receiving in return.
Booser, 32, made his major league debut last season after a tumultuous road to the show that included multiple serious injuries that forced him into early retirement in 2017.
Booser appeared in 43 games for Boston in 2024, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.336 WHIP and 9.1 K/9 over 42 2/3 innings.
The Red Sox still have Chapman, Wilson, Zach Penrod, Chris Martin and Brennan Bernadino as top lefty options of the bullpen if needed.
