Red Sox fans will have to jog their memories to remember the newest addition to Boston’s pitching staff.
On Tuesday, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported the Red Sox signed pitcher Robert Stock to a minor league contract. Cotillo confirmed a recent announcement from Naranjeros de Hermosillo, the Mexican Pacific League team for whom Stock played in 2024.
Stock, 35, played for Boston during the forgettable, COVID-19-impacted 2020 season. He compiled a 4.73 ERA and 1.950 WHIP in 10 relief appearances after being claimed off waivers.
Stock hasn’t appeared in a Major League Baseball game since he played for the New York Mets in 2021.
Since then, he’s pitched for the KBO League’s Doosan Bears, the Milwaukee Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate in Nashville, the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks and the Mexican League’s Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos. Most recently, Stock dominated in winter ball for Naranjeros de Hermosillo, posting a 1.60 ERA while striking out 78 batters in 84 1/3 innings.
