The Brazilian has been one of the standout performers in the entire Premier League ever since signing from Lyon.
A driving force behind Newcastle’s push to the Champions League, Guimaraes has naturally attracted attention from others with that form.
Arsenal are known admirers, while Manchester City are also thought to have made their interest in the South American well known.
Of course, Bruno has a £100m release-clause in his contract that is valid up until midnight tomorrow.
And offering clarity on the matter, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows of the situation.
Bruno Guimaraes could still leave Newcastle this summer
Speaking alongside Ben Jacobs for CaughtOffside, Romano has offered up what he knows about the Bruno Guimaraes situation.
“Look, never say never in football but what I’m told at the moment is that Bruno Guimaraes is not entertaining any talk with any clubs so it should be something surprising and shocking to see Bruno leaving Newcastle in the final moments of his release-clause,” Romano said.
“So at the moment I am told nothing is happening. There are no negotiations.
“It’s all quiet around Bruno. But let’s see what happens in July and in August because interest from other clubs remain. We know Man City really appreciate him but at the moment we don’t know how much they want to invest in a midfielder and the outgoings.
“For Bruno there is also interest from PSG but this is not advanced, although the interest is there.”
Newcastle fans will be nervous
As Romano says, it would take a late and bold move from an interested party to make a play for Guimaraes at this stage.
However, it is a long summer and as is suggested here, you cannot rule anything out just yet when it comes Bruno moving on from the northeast.
If the likes of City or Arsenal do come in with big money and a huge contract offer, then it’s hard for a player to say no.
Magpies fans, then, will be feeling a touch nervous about their star man right up until the window closes.
