The wildcard Australian-Serbian pair of Kyrgios and Djokovic won 6-4, 6-7(4), [10-8] in an hour and 48 minutes at the Pat Rafter Arena.
Kyrgios had played only one singles tour match in the last two years due to knee, foot and wrist injuries.
Kyrgios said he did not want to take anything for granted in his comeback.
Djokovic and Kyrgios will face the top-seeded Croatian-Kiwi duo of Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus in the next round.
Djokovic and Kyrgios are also scheduled to play singles in Brisbane in preparation for the Australian Open. The 37-year-old Serbian, a 10-time champion in Melbourne, faces local wildcard Rinky Hijikata while former Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios, who is using Protected Ranking, takes on big-serving Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round.
Shri Patnaik reviewed the crop loss situation caused by unseasonal rain at Seragada block, Hinjili block, Aska and Kabisuryanagar during his visit. He inquired about crop damage and discussed the situation with the concerned officials.
“Crop damage during harvest has broken the backbone of farmers. During my visit to Ganjam district, I visited various affected areas and understood the pain of farmers. The government should stand by the farmers at this time and provide immediate compensation to the farmers”, said Naveen in his X
On Sunday Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also visited three affected districts and met the families of the affected farmers. He also took stock of the situation near the paddy fields and assured that timely support would be given to all the affected.
Earlier, Revenue minister Suresh Pujari has announced that the state government will extend the damage compensation to the farmers affected by the incessant rains.
Also, the central government has extended the deadline for the insured farmers to provide information about crop loss by three more days. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the state government had requested the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment to extend this period. Keeping in mind the interests of the farmers, the Union Government has extended this period by three more days. Therefore, farmers can now provide information about crop losses to insurance companies till January 1, 2025.
