Arsenal could see their summer transfer plans impacted by a Premier League rival confirming a £40million new signing. As football.london have reported over the last few months, Arsenal’s priority is to bring in a new midfielder.
Thomas Partey’s expected departure has greatly impacted Mikel Arteta’s transfer aims with numerous names already linked. Agreeing deals for the likes of Amadou Onana and Youssouf Fofana appears to be far easier than signing either Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes, with both of those main targets at one point.
The Gunners were very keen on the Slovenia international, largely because of his attractive £55million release clause, but his decision to remain in Germany saw Arteta and Edu consider a right-sided attacking addition. Among the options to be linked is Wolves’ Pedro Neto, Johan Bakayoko of PSV and Barcelona star Raphinha.
Neto has been a long-term target of Arsenal, though injury problems have regularly got in the way of a potential transfer. However, the 24-year-old’s quality is undeniable with that fact shown in glimpses that could tempt Arsenal into sealing a summer swoop.
Wolves’ financial problems may have helped Arsenal secure a deal, however those appear to no longer be a major concern. With Club captain Max Kilman completing a £40million move to West Ham, Wolves have obtained some needed funds, though some of the fee will be heading to the defender’s form side Maidenhead United.
Despite that, Wolves are set to take in some significant money which can be used for their own transfer plans but also to strengthen their financial position. With that in mind, selling Neto may not be a necessity for Gary O’Neil ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Arteta now faces a significant dilemma regarding the Gunners’ pursuit of Neto with his injury issues and Wolves’ cash injection certainly suggesting he should look elsewhere. However, the need for a Bukayo Saka back-up is clear and Neto could be the dream option having plied his trade in the Premier League for several seasons.
