With the final four weeks of the NFL regular season here, Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry has decided to change his appearance.
Henry revealed that he cut off his dreadlocks ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. The All-Pro will now be sporting cornrows for at least the next few weeks. While at practice on Tuesday, he showed off his new look. The days of him rocking his dreads outside of his helmet are gone. Well, at least they are for now.
Ravens reporter Carita Parks shared a video of Henry in action at Tuesday’s practice. It didn’t take long for fans to comment on the Pro Bowler’s new look.
“Bro getting serious for this run,” a Ravens fan wrote on X.
“Insane that he’s had it his entire career, going all way back to high school or college. Wonder why now,” another fan said.
“Probably got tired of ppl pulling his hair trying to tackle him,” a third fan speculated.
Some fans are claiming Henry has lost his “aura” because of his haircut. We’ll see if they feel the same way after he breaks off a long run this weekend against the Giants.
The Ravens signed Henry to a two-year, $16 million contract this past offseason. He has absolutely lived up to that deal so far, rushing for 1,407 yards and 13 touchdowns through 13 games.
If the Ravens are going to make a Super Bowl run this winter, they’ll need to lean heavily on Henry. As of now, there’s no reason to believe he can’t excel in the biggest moments.
That being said, the Ravens have work to do if they want to host a playoff game. They’re currently two games back of the Pittsburgh Steelers for first place in the AFC North.
The Steelers defeated the Ravens by a score of 18-16 during their first matchup this season. These two rivals will meet again on Dec. 21. We’d have to imagine Henry will get a large workload in that game.
