Following their pre-season tour of the United States of America, several Arsenal academy stars appear to have broken into the first-team squad and look set for breakout seasons.
Among those breakout stars is Myles Lewis-Skelly, who came to prominence in the club’s Hale End academy as a central midfielder, before being moved to play at left-back in recent months.
The 17-year-old sensation featured in all five of Arsenal’s pre-season matches, against AFC Bournemouth, Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyonnais, and has since continued to train with the first-team squad.
Unlike fellow breakout star Ethan Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly has continued to play for the Gunners’ Under-21 side – but he was included in Arsenal’s most recent matchday squad, in a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton, as his rapid rise to stardom continues.
Despite being a prominent figure in Arsenal’s first-team training, and one of the most talked about, and most highly rated, players at the club, Lewis-Skelly’s mother has claimed that her son still has a long way to go.
She continued, recognising the significant progress made by her son in recent months: “He is not competing with the 10,000 kids in academies anymore, he is competing with multimillion-pound players all over the world.”
Lewis-Skelly is currently on international duty alongside Nwaneri for England Under-19s, as he looks to maintain his exciting start to the 2024/25 season when he returns to Arsenal next week.
