Milton Williams Reveals Why He Chose Patriots Over Panthers: ‘They Wanted Me the Most’
As one of the most sought-after defensive tackles in free agency, Milton Williams had multiple teams vying for his talent. The Carolina Panthers aggressively pursued the former Philadelphia Eagles standout, but when the New England Patriots made their move, everything changed in an instant.
During an interview on The Insiders, Williams shared a behind-the-scenes look at his whirlwind free agency process. As offers poured in, Carolina initially seemed like his next destination. “My agent was on the phone, and I was in the room listening,” Williams recalled. “Carolina looked like the best offer at that point, so we were getting ready to go there.”
Then, the Patriots struck. “New England jumped in and said, ‘Nah, this is what we got for you,’” Williams explained. With the Panthers unwilling to increase their offer, the Patriots sealed the deal. “They wanted me the most and made me a priority. So, I made them a priority.”
New England’s aggressive approach and clear commitment to Williams left no doubt in his mind. Now, he’s set to bring his pass-rushing prowess to the Patriots, proving once again that in free agency, timing—and persistence—are everything.
