Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reeling from what they perceive as Prince William’s “appalling betrayal” after his meeting with Donald Trump, according to a source.
The Prince of Wales met with the President-elect in France for the grand reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which had been ravaged by fire in 2019. Trump praised William to the press, stating, “He’s doing a fantastic job.”
A source has now claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were left feeling “shocked” and “terrified” by William’s amicable meeting with Trump, given their tense relationship. “This cuts deep on so many levels and feels like an appalling betrayal for Harry and Meghan. Prince William appeared to get along with Trump very well,” the source said.
The source continued, “Of course William was fulfilling a professional role but Trump has been so vicious towards them and of course William is aware of that, so Meghan and Harry can’t help but think he could have discussed it with them first.”
Adding to the Sussexes’ dismay, the source noted to Closer Magazine, “The fact Harry can’t even get William to pick up the phone is insulting enough, but now they feel very hurt and betrayed that their feelings appear not to have been taken into consideration.”
Harry and Meghan notably stayed neutral during this year’s presidential election but Meghan has previously expressed support for Kamala Harris, who was defeated by Trump. The source revealed, “The whole situation has triggered a storm of emotions for Harry and Meghan. They’re hurt and angry and genuinely quite shocked because, for all their issues with William, they still believed his politics and beliefs were more in line with theirs.”
The added pressure comes as fears mount due to Trump’s hostility towards the couple. “Now, the whole thing has become terrifying. Trump has made it clear he’s out to punish them and Meghan and Harry fear that his admiration for William could make him more inclined to do so,” the source claimed.
