Manchester United’s summer transfer window spending is set to take the next step up this week as Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui prepare to join for a combined fee of £51.5m.
These deals signify United manager Erik ten Hag going to the old and familiar well of players he has worked with previously. Both men enjoyed brilliant spells under the Dutchman’s coaching at Ajax.
The duo improved tremendously in Amsterdam during his reign with De Ligt particularly moving on to bigger and better things since. However, the pair have been left out in the cold at the Allianz Arena and now they are both seeking shelter with United.
As with all new arrivals to the club, there is bound to be a significant impact on the current playing squad. In this instance, there are five players who are set to be seriously affected by the two new recruits.
First up, is Aaron Wan-Bissaka. United’s pursuit of De Ligt and Mazraoui was delayed while they waited for an agreement to be reached for the Englishman’s exit.
