Martin Odegaard has displayed his true colours following Arsenal’s defeat against Liverpool. Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Reds at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Wednesday night, ending the Gunners’ pre-season tour of the United States.
After the game, several Arsenal players, including Ethan Nwaneri, thanked the travelling fans for their support on social media. The 17-year-old midfielder uploaded a handful of pictures to his Instagram, with the caption: “[United States flag emoji and green tick emoji].”
The post chalked up over 50,000 likes and nearly 600 comments. Among the hundreds of messages from friends, family, colleagues and supporters, Martin Odegaard also showed his support for the teenage sensation with a classy message.
The Gunners captain was the only senior player to leave a comment, posting a star emoji. Tommy Setford, who Arsenal signed from Ajax this summer, Myles Lewis-Skelly, who joined Nwaneri in the United States, and Mikey Moore from Tottenham Hotspur also showered the youngster with praise.
Speaking to reporters following the Liverpool defeat, Odegaard displayed – once again – why he’s been entrusted by Mikel Arteta to don the captain’s armband. When quizzed on his side’s performance against the Reds, the Norway international said: “In general, it’s been a good tour.
“We’re gaining a lot of fitness and some good answers in the game. I think it’s been good but obviously we wanted to win the game today so we’re a bit disappointed now, but it’s pre-season.
