Manchester United get pre-season injury boost ahead of squad announcement for US tour

Forward Marcus Rashford has trained with the rest of his teammates ahead of Manchester United flying out to the United States on Wednesday for their pre-season tour.

Rashford was left out of the 26-man squad that faced Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday because of a ‘small niggle’. He joined the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Antony in missing the trip to Edinburgh.

The United academy graduate, however, did feature in the Reds’ pre-season opener against Rosenborg in Norway five days earlier. He started the clash in Trondheim and played 45 minutes.

Manager Erik ten Hag has made wholesale changes at half-time in each of United’s opening two friendlies this summer, changing his entire crop of outfield players against Rangers at the interval. Only goalkeeper Andre Onana played the full 90 minutes.

United defeated the Gers 2-0 thanks to goals from Amad and Joe Hugill. The former started on the right of United’s front three and was their best player by some distance, laying down the gauntlet to United’s other wingers to perform in the quest to bag a starting berth come the start of the season.
