Kobbie Mainoo started England’s Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland, here’s how Manchester United fans reacted to his display.
Manchester United’s 19-year-old wonderkid was once again selected by Gareth Southgate from the start against the Swiss.
Kobbie Mainoo exited the field in the 78th minute when England were 1-0 down, but prior to his exit, he was one of, if not the best player in white on the pitch.
This won’t surprise United fans considering how he does it every week for Erik ten Hag’s side.
However, even though it isn’t surprising, it’s still very impressive to watch and afterwards United fans have been reacting on X.
Manchester United fans react to Kobbie Mainoo
Mainoo may have been taken off in a three-man substitution which led to the equaliser, but Mainoo was excellent prior to his substitution and this had United fans blown away by his display.
“Kobbie Mainoo carrying the country”, wrote one fan after an excellent run from the 19-year-old in the second half.
Another fan then commented, “Kobbie Mainoo BEST player on the pitch. He needs help!”
“Kobbie Mainoo is genuinely that guy we are speaking of”, wrote a third.
A fourth fan made an interesting observation, “It’s insane to think in the same season we finished 8th we integrated a gem of a player like Mainoo into the 1st team lol he’s truly world-class potential.”
Finally, one United journalist pointed out Mainoo being a leader, “Kobbie Mainoo, aged 19, advising the 34-year-old Kyle Walker on his positioning there. Cracking confidence.”
How Kobbie Mainoo played against Switzerland for England
Despite being taken off, Mainoo was the best England player on the pitch prior to that moment and was far better than Declan Rice.
However given his age and inexperience relative to his teammate, he will always be the one withdrawn.
But when watching Mainoo and looking at his stats, it’s tough to see why he’d be withdrawn while playing so well.

A superb outing for Mainoo and one which deserves a spot in the starting XI in the semi-final against either Turkey or the Netherlands.
