Manchester United players have shown their appreciation for the transfer arrival of Joshua Zirkzee, who became the first signing of the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era on Sunday.
The striker moves from Bologna in a £36m deal and signifies that United have completed one of their transfer objectives this summer, with defenders and a midfielder also being sought after ahead of the new season.
Upon arriving at Old Trafford, Zirkzee said: “Having had discussions with the manager and the leaders of the club, I know how exciting the future is going to be here, and I cannot wait to play my part in achieving success for Manchester United.
“I am a player who has always dedicated everything to winning; I’m ready for this next challenge, to go to another level in my career and win more trophies. It is a privilege to join such an iconic club.”
Zirkzee has now taken a short holiday after ending his previous vacation early upon being called up late to the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024. It means he will miss the club’s first pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Norway on Monday.
It is unclear how many of those taking part in international competition this summer will return in time for Saturday’s friendly with Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium in Scotland, but all are expected back for the tour of the USA.
United are due to play Arsenal on July 28 at SoFi Stadium in California, which would be the next opportunity for Zirkzee to make his bow should the Rangers fixture come too soon.
In the meantime, United teammates have sent an indirect message to Zirkzee via social media. United have published multiple posts on their Instagram account promoting the arrival of the Dutchman, which has garnered a reaction from new teammates.
Bruno Fernandes liked every post, while Diogo Dalot and Christian Eriksen liked multiple. Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund all showed their welcome in the same manner, indicating that squad members are excited to see Zirkzee sign.
