‘Signing his contract today’: Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are just about to sign ‘big talent’

Despite enduring a somewhat slow summer at Arsenal, Edu and his team now finally look to be making progress in the transfer market.

Riccardo Calafiori could undergo his Arsenal medical next week, and Mikel Arteta is getting ever closer to welcoming his second summer signing.
David Raya’s permanent arrival has been the only move thus far, a signing that was something of a formality after his loan last season.
And otherwise, the only significant moves the club have made have been for the under-21 side, welcoming the likes of Lucas Nygaard.
The 18-year-old joined from FC Nordsjaelland where he had loose links to Inaki Cana – who likely had a say in the deal.
And the signing could be a significant one in regard to Arsenal’s pre-season tour, with Nygaard set to travel to the US with the first team squad.
Raya is still on holiday after winning the Euros, and Aaron Ramsdale will also need time despite not featuring for England at the tournament.
That being said, it seems as if another young goalkeeper is about to strengthen Arsenal’s ranks.
Fabrizio Romano says Tommy Setford will sign his Arsenal contract on Sunday
Sharing his update on X, Fabrizio Romano has just shared that Tommy Setford will sign his Arsenal contract today.
Labelled as a ‘big talent’, Setford is likely a signing for the under-21s, but someone who could get his first senior minutes for the club in pre-season given the situation described.
18-year-old Setford has spent his whole career with Ajax to date, coming through their academy, but now looks ready to make the switch to north London.
Romano simply shared: “18 year old goalkeeper Tommy Setford, set to become new Arsenal player by signing his contract today.”
A significant win for Arsenal, who are seemingly making a concerted effort to better their attempts to acquire Europe’s best young talent.
Manchester City and Chelsea have been leading the way in that regard for some time.
However, Arsenal now seem keen to not be left behind, perhaps believing that Arteta’s project is ready to bring through such talents.
All that being said, departures will also be significant for Arsenal this month and next.
