The Sacramento Kings doubled down on winning with this current group of players this offseason when they added DeMar DeRozan to their talented duo of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. It is not working out in the early parts of this season.
At the time this is being written, the Sacramento Kings hold a disappointing 12-13 record and sit outside of the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Western Conference standings. If the current trajectory continues, perhaps it will force the Kings front office to consider a serious shakeup to the roster.
Bleacher Report recently suggested that type of impactful trade. The deal would have the Kings embracing their disappointing season and dealing away one of their main stars.
Fox offers the Heat another star and an offensive engine to bolster their current core of Bam Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Herro. With the Heat currently 12-10 on the season, this deal could elevate them closer to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference.
For the Kings, this would be them waiving the white flag on the idea of building around Fox as their primary star. The duo of Fox and Sabonis led the Kings to their only playoff appearance since 2006-07. However, in terms of competing for anything of genuine stature, the Kings have fallen completely short.
