Tottenham Hotspur could “hijack” Man United’s pursuit of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, Alan Hutton has been told.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Hutton believes that Branthwaite would suit the Tottenham back line, with the team having suffered an extensive period without enough defensive depth.
Whilst Spurs have long admired the 21-year-old Toffees revelation – who was considered in many quarters unlucky not to have made Gareth Southgate’s final England squad for Euro 2024 – United have appeared in pole position for some weeks, launching a £35m bid which Everton immediately rebuffed.
Branthwaite would offer new strength to Tottenham defence
Having been an integral part of Sean Dyche’s Everton side which comfortably swerved relegation despite eight points’ worth of PSR deductions, Branthwaite has attracted serious attention.
Hutton believes the left-footed recent England debutant would be a welcome addition for Ange Postecoglou.
