Arsenal continued their Premier League winning run with a 2-0 triumph over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners had a tough outing with limited clear-cut chances, but managed to pick up maximum points with two late goals.
Mikel Merino came on as an emergency striker and made the difference with a brace in seven minutes. The Spanish midfielder could have even scored a hat-trick.
Alongside Merino, the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Declan Rice were brilliant. Myles Lewis-Skelly had a quiet game in an attacking point of view, but played a major role in the win.
The 18-year-old has earned plaudits for his defensive positioning and showed his class with a sensational last-ditch clearance in the 73rd minute. He somehow put the ball out for a corner. It was a simple tap-in for Bobby De Cordova-Reid otherwise.
Speaking after the game, Arteta said that he was initially unaware of Lewis-Skelly’s clearance. He added that the moment was amazing as the Foxes could have been 1-0 up without his Lewis-Skelly’s intervention.
Thomas Partey was guilty of losing possession in the lead up. His mistake could have cost the game. Lewis-Skelly saved his blushes with an outstanding clearance.
With the way things were going, a 1-0 deficit could have been hard to turn around. Arsenal’s win sees them within four points of leaders Liverpool, who host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield this afternoon.
