Injured Barcelona superstar could return by May with recovery progressing positively

Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s season was cut short earlier in the campaign when the goalkeeper picked up a knee injury against Villarreal.

The German was subsequently ruled out with a long-term injury, with many even ruling him out for the entirety of the campaign.

Ter Stegen’s injury also prompted Barcelona to sign Wojciech Szczesny, who returned from retirement to play.

Ter Stegen making crucial steps in his recovery

However, a recent update from ter Stegen himself has shone some positive light on the goalkeeper’s road to recovery.

The German, through Instagram, posted pictures of himself putting on his boots and gloves, even touching the ball. He posted these photos with the captain, “Another day of progress.”

The report even goes on to suggest that the German international has made some crucial steps in his recovery, having begun working on the pitch earlier this month and now resuming training with the ball.

If the current pace continues, Ter Stegen may even become available at the disposal of Hansi Flick by May, meaning he can potentially end the season with Barcelona.

However, the Catalans won’t be banking too much on his return or to expedite the return of the goalkeeper, who has had problems with injuries far too often in the past few years.

Barcelona already have the goalkeeping spot sorted, with Szczesny serving as the first-choice option and Inaki Pena serving as his immediate alternative.
