While Ian Wright is a big admirer of Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus – there are indications that manager Mikel Arteta might be ready to part ways with the Brazilian.
Jesus, who was signed from Manchester City in July 2022 for a hefty £45million, has not quite lived up to the high expectations that accompanied his arrival at the Emirates, with an exit from the club being rumoured in recent weeks.
The Gunners have come up just short twice in their bid to overthrow Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League, and Jesus has only contributed a modest 15 league goals in those campaigns.
Wright had previously lauded Jesus in 2017, then just 19 and playing for Man City, for his decision-making and off-the-ball movement. Speaking on BT Sport following Jesus’ goal and assist in a 4-0 victory over West Ham, Wright said: “When you watch the way he played, it was very mature, the choices he made, the runs he made”.
The Arsenal great went on to add: “I would like to think yes, in the end, I learned how to do it, but at 19, he is doing stuff I was doing when I was in my prime at 28!”
Now 27, Jesus’ time at Arsenal has been marred by injuries, often resulting in him being benched in favour of their £65million man, Kai Havertz.
