Virginia Tech’s defensive backfield just got a major boost as the Hokies secured a commitment from Caleb Brown, a seasoned cornerback from Hawaii. The announcement came Saturday, with Brown’s agents confirming the move to both On3 and 247Sports. Brown, who has one year of eligibility remaining, will bring both experience and versatility to a secondary that is in need of depth.
Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing in at 160 pounds, Brown’s athleticism and playmaking ability have been on full display over the past two years with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The Anniston, Alabama native played in 23 games, showcasing his ability to cover ground, break up passes, and tackle effectively. Over the course of his time at Hawaii, Brown accumulated 43 tackles and 13 pass breakups. His impressive performance earned him a solid 77.1 grade from Pro Football Focus for the 2024 season, underlining his reliability on the field.
Before his time in Hawaii, Brown’s football journey took him through Kennesaw State and Butler Community College, where he developed his skills and prepared for the next level. His diverse background gives him a wealth of experience that could prove invaluable to the Hokies as they look to strengthen their secondary heading into the new season.
Brown’s arrival marks the third key transfer addition for Virginia Tech following spring practice, joining offensive lineman Gavin Crawford from West Virginia and defensive tackle Kody Huisman from North Dakota State. While the Hokies have made strides in bolstering their roster, Brown’s addition is particularly crucial for their cornerback depth.
Virginia Tech’s cornerback unit is relatively young, with East Carolina transfer Isaiah Brown-Murray having some experience but recently being moved to nickelback during spring practices.
