Time is quickly running out for Arsenal to complete their business in the transfer market this summer with the window closing on Friday.
The Gunners have only added one new senior face to the squad this summer, Riccardo Calafiori, but they are expected to be busy in the final days of the transfer window. Sporting director Edu Gaspar is spearheading the operation and working closely with Mikel Arteta over potential incomings.
Merino over the line
Arsenal have been pushing hard to sign Mikel Merino for some time. Personal terms aren’t a problem but it is understood that an agreement between Real Sociedad and the Gunners has now been reached.
The Spain international is getting closer to becoming the second arrival through the door at the Emirates Stadium. Merino’s return to the Premier League will be a huge boost for Arteta’s midfield with the talented technician strengthening an important area of the pitch.
Merino hasn’t played since Spain’s Euro 2024 final win over England meaning the timing of his arrival doesn’t necessarily matter. He’s unlikely to play against Brighton meaning his debut could come in the north London derby after next month’s international break.
