Primetime Spotlight: Virginia Tech Announces Kickoff Times for Key 2025 Matchups
Hokie fans can start planning their fall Saturdays — Virginia Tech has officially announced kickoff times and TV broadcasts for three major games in the 2025 football season.
The Hokies’ home opener at Lane Stadium is set to take place on Saturday, September 6, against Vanderbilt. Fans can expect an electric atmosphere under the lights, as the game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and be televised on the ACC Network. This marks a rematch of last season’s dramatic overtime loss to the Commodores in Nashville, where Tech fell 34-27.
The following week, Virginia Tech will host Old Dominion on Saturday, September 13, with another night game scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, also on ACCN. This will be ODU’s fourth visit to Blacksburg. Last season, the Hokies traveled to Norfolk and secured a convincing 37-17 victory.
Both of these contests follow Tech’s highly anticipated season opener on Sunday, August 31, when the Hokies face South Carolina in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. That game, previously announced, kicks off at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN and will be the first meeting between the programs since 1991.
Virginia Tech will also appear in a nationally televised Friday night matchup later in the season. On October 24, the Hokies will host Cal at Lane Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. ET primetime clash on ESPN. It’s only the second meeting ever between the two teams — the last came in the 2003 Insight Bowl.
This will mark the 23rd consecutive season (excluding the COVID-impacted 2020 campaign) that Virginia Tech has played a weeknight game on ESPN, continuing a tradition that began in 2002.
While fans are eager for more details on the remaining games, several matchups — including tilts with NC State, Wake Forest, Florida State, and Miami — still have TBD kickoff times.
Here’s a quick look at the three confirmed matchups:
