Gary Lineker says Arsenal’s summer signing is ‘world-class’ after Aston Villa heroics

Gary Lineker has hailed one Arsenal summer signing as ‘world-class’ after watching the player impress at the Gunners 2:0 win at Villa Park over the weekend.

Raya produced a sensational save to deny Ollie Watkins which proved crucial as Arsenal went on to win 2-0, with Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey scoring the goals.

Lineker, a former England striker, highlighted Raya’s quick reflexes and ability to make crucial saves, citing his stop against Watkins as “absolutely world-class.” Raya has now made two significant saves in as many games, solidifying his position as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Raya moved permanently to Arsenal this summer after a successful loan spell with the London outfit.

Mikel Arteta’s decision to sign Raya from Brentford has been vindicated, with the Spaniard replacing Aaron Ramsdale as the Gunners’ No. 1.

Lineker commended Arteta for making tough decisions, saying, “Mikel Arteta is clearly not frightened of making big decisions.”

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards agreed with Lineker’s assessment, calling Raya’s save “world-class” and acknowledging the bold decision to replace Ramsdale. Richards expressed sympathy for Ramsdale, who has slipped down the pecking order and may leave Arsenal before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal’s victory over Aston Villa maintains their perfect start to the season, with the Gunners seeking to build on last season’s second-place finish. Raya’s form will be crucial in their quest for success, and his “world-class” performances have already made a significant impact.

Arsenal with Raya under the sticks have kept two clean sheets in their two games this season, maintaining their perfect start to the season in their third bid to win their first premier League title in 20 years.
