Arsenal could take advantage of the uncertainty over the future of Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe in their pursuit of a striker. There has been a lot of talk over the Magpies’ striker Alexander Isak this summer.
His name was mentioned in a shortlist of potential striker targets for Arsenal this summer, while Chelsea are also said to have made an approach for the Swede earlier in the transfer window. While the links have somewhat cooled in the last few weeks, talk over the future of Howe could potentially give Arsenal a chance to act of any interest.
Howe is among the favourites to take over from Gareth Southgate as England manager following his resignation after the Euro 2024 final. ChronicleLive now reports that the English FA are keen to speak to the Newcastle boss over the vacancy.
If the interest is followed up, then the club will have to decide whether to allow him to leave and take the job. Uncertainty over the management at the club could potentially unsettle players, including Isak, which could then give Arsenal a chance to make their move. It won’t, however, be a cheap deal, with Newcastle demanding a fee of over £115 million for the striker.
