Ohio State Buckeyes legend Eddie George has impressed in his coaching career at the FCS level, and now he is poised to make the jump up to the FBS.
George has spent four seasons as the head coach of the Tennessee State Tigers, leading them to a 9-3 regular-season record. The Tigers finished 6-2 in the Big South-OVC, finishing as co-champions with three other teams.
Tennessee State lost in the first round the FCS playoffs, going down 41-27 to No. 14 Montana, but George’s progress has earned him a move up, with the Bowling Green Falcons making him their new head coach.
Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports, George has informed Tennessee State that he is taking the job with Bowling Green. ESPN’s Pete Thamel had previously reported that the Falcons had extended an offer to the 1995 Heisman Trophy winner.
George will replace Scot Loeffler, who left Bowling Green to become quarterbacks coach of the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.
Loeffler had been head coach for six seasons, leading the Falcons to successive 7-6 records in 2023 and 2024. Bowling Green finished 6-2 in the MAC last season.
George received an interview for the Chicago Bears head coaching job back in January, with that job going to former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Now he will make a more modest jump up the ranks as he continues his head coaching journey.
