Arsenal are still open to improving their attacking options in this summer’s transfer window but Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu will have to be quick on the draw if they want to bolster their ranks before the end of August.
The Gunners have only signed two players since the start of the window in mid-June, with Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori being their only ‘true’ signing after last season’s loanee goalkeeper David Raya was brought in on a permanent deal. When compared to a side like potential title challengers Liverpool, who are yet to sign a single player under Arne Slot this summer, that doesn’t seem too bad.
When compared to a team like Chelsea who are about to make their eleventh signing of the summer in Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix though, it may be good that Arsenal are actually exercising caution instead of flinging pieces of mud with seven-year contracts to a wall and seeing which ones stick.
But there has been continued questions about Arteta’s side and their ability to win trophies without a traditional centre-forward, and given last summer saw them make no upgrades in that department either, it’s fair to say that it’s at least a little surprising there’s been no arrivals in the attacking-third since Leandro Trossard signed from Brighton in January 2023.
