Taylor Moton, the Carolina Panthers’ veteran offensive tackle, has put to rest the swirling retirement rumors as he prepares for the 2025 NFL season. Over the past three offseasons, Moton has restructured his contract with the Panthers, but this year, the team is letting him play out the final year of his deal.
In a recent interview with Joseph Person of The Athletic, Moton was clear about his future plans. “Looking forward, I do believe I have another contract in me,” he said. “But right now my focus is on the 2025 season.” This statement should reassure Panthers fans who have been concerned about his health and longevity.
Moton, 31, is set to earn $31.3 million this season, which is a significant chunk—11.2%—of Carolina’s salary cap. Over recent years, injuries have taken a toll on the right tackle, sparking speculation about whether he might be forced into retirement. Despite this, Moton remains optimistic about his physical condition.
From 2018 through 2022, Moton was a model of durability, playing every offensive snap for the Panthers. However, his streak of 104 consecutive starts ended in 2024 after missing two games due to elbow and triceps injuries. He also sat out Week 17 last season with a knee issue, leading many to question if he can continue at this level.
“It’s chronic stuff. Most linemen deal with it,” Moton said, addressing the concerns. “My body’s been feeling good. No triceps problems right now, no knee problems. The knees have been feeling good, and I’m excited about doing whatever I can to play 17 games plus playoffs.”
Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, some wondered if the Panthers might draft a younger tackle to eventually replace an aging Moton. However, the team has not done so yet, showing faith in Moton’s ability to protect quarterback Bryce Young for at least one more year.
