Caitlin Clark is quickly becoming one of the world’s biggest names when it comes to sports. After claiming the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year in 2024, the 22-year-old can add to her trophy cabinet with another prestigious award.
That’s because BBC Sports recently announced that Clark is a finalist for the 2024 World Sports Star of the Year award.
The Indiana Fever star is one of six finalists, joining American gymnast Simone Biles, Swiss wheelchair racer Catherine Debrunner, Swiss pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, Dutch distance runner Sifan Hassan and French swimmer Leon Marchand.
“Is Caitlin Clark your World Sport Star of 2024? You can vote for the record-breaking WNBA player to win the award at BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024,” BBC wrote on X.
Clark continues to make her presence felt
The nomination is the latest acknowledgment of Clark’s fantastic 2024, which saw her drafted by the Fever first overall in the WNBA Draft in April.
She then carried her strong play in the NCAA, where she set the all-time scoring records for both women’s and men’s basketball, over to the professional ranks.
Clark is already the all-time leader when it comes to single-game and single-season assists, and she became the first rookie in league history to record a triple-double in her first year.
She ended the year averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game, which helped her take home Rookie of the Year honors.
While her play helped the Indiana Fever reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016, she wasn’t able to prevent a first round exit at the hands of the Connecticut Sun.
