Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sent his reaction to Donny van de Beek, who is set to join Girona on a permanent deal this month.
Van de Beek has had a tough career with the Red Devils. He is expected to end his four-year association with the club, having agreed to join Girona.
Girona, who have qualified for the Champions League next season, are set to sign the Dutchman for an initial fee of €500,000 (£420,000) which could rise to €4-5m (£3.3-4.2m) with easy add-ons.
The overall package could go up to €15m (£12.6m) based on his performances. United have also retained a sell-on clause which could benefit them if Van de Beek can revive his career.
Van de Beek confirmed his departure in an Instagram post yesterday and Fernandes was one of those to quickly respond, he commented: “You deserve the best.”
Van de Beek will be aiming to restart career at Girona
The 27-year-old was one of the best young playmakers in the Eredivisie under manager Erik ten Hag. He made the switch to Old Trafford for £35 million in 2020.
It was anticipated that Van de Beek would provide good competition in the attacking and central midfield positions, but he struggled to cope with the higher intensity of the Premier League.
The arrival of Ten Hag at Old Trafford failed to change his fortunes. Van de Beek spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt where he was equally disappointing.
He is currently on the cusp of joining Girona. Van de Beek has the opportunity to find his feet without the pressure of expectations due to the nominal transfer fee up front.
