Mikel Arteta is set to be offered a bumper pay rise by Arsenal with the club confident at extending the Spaniard’s stay, talkSPORT understands.
The 42-year-old is tied down at the Emirates until 2025, but looks poised to pen fresh terms in north London in his quest to guide the Gunners to a first Premier League title since 2004.
Arsenal are keen to enter formal contract talks with their ex-skipper following a fine campaign where they battled for the Premier League title.
After back-to-back second-placed finishes in the top-flight, there is a feeling it could be third time lucky for Arsenal.
All signs point towards a busy summer at the Emirates, with Arteta’s future believed to be one of the top priorities for club chiefs.
And it is understood that should Arteta sign on the dotted line, he would become Arsenal’s highest-paid manager in their history.
Legendary boss Arsene Wenger, who signed Arteta from Everton in 2011, still holds that record following his last contract, which was estimated to be worth around £8million-a-year.
Any contract offer to Arteta will also likely see him become one of the country’s top paid coaches.
Both Arsenal and Arteta share the same vision – for the club to succeed on all fronts as they bid to become a European powerhouse.
And the Barcelona academy star highlighted his goals for Arsenal after he collected his award for the ‘Best Premier League Coach’ in Italy on Tuesday night.
Speaking on stage, he was asked what is next for the Gunners, to which he said: “Win. Win, win and win. That’s what we want.”
He added: “I feel extremely proud because when I decided to stop my career as a football player I thought that all the joy and best moments were gone.
“And I was totally wrong because when I started my coaching and managerial career, I love it even more.
“I have to thank all the players, coaching staff and everybody involved at the football club for making my days so enjoyable, so inspiring and for supporting me in this journey that we started four years ago that hopefully is going to take us right to the top to win many trophies.
“We know the competition but we believe we can do it, so we’re going to give it a real go.”
