Barcelona youngster set to be given a rare opportunity to prove himself against Cadiz

Vitor Roque has perhaps been one of the few dark spots for Barcelona in an otherwise brilliant 2024 so far.

After arriving from Athletico Paranaense in January, the forward was expected to make a big impact in Catalonia, even become the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

However, as we approach the final phase of the campaign, Roque has failed to even establish himself as a first-team regular and has fallen behind in the pecking order.

The forward, though, will have an exciting opportunity to prove himself as Barcelona gear up for a league encounter against Cadiz this weekend.

Mission Cadiz

Barcelona are coming on the back of a hard-fought 3-2 win over PSG in midweek. And with the second leg to be played in a week’s time, Xavi will be mindful about avoiding any exertions on his big players against Cadiz this weekend.

In any case, Xavi will be missing out on the services of Robert Lewandowski due to a suspension. That should pave the way for Vitor Roque to start as the main centre forward, reports Diario SPORT

The report points out that the Barcelona board expects Roque to seize the opportunity against Cadiz and prove his worth.

So far this season, the former Athletico PR starlet has scored only two goals since joining in January. He has, however, been restricted to just over 200 minutes of league action.

Barcelona’s plan with Vitor Roque

While Barcelona were certainly hoping for something more from Vitor Roque, the club’s management has not completely lost faith in the Brazilian whatsoever.

In fact, Barcelona want to approach the matter slowly and steadily, allowing him to fully adapt to the system.

That is why the upcoming game against Cadiz becomes even more important, as Vitor Roque will probably spearhead the Barça frontline, alongside the likes of Marc Guiu.
