Barcelona’s season may have its silver lining, but it is clear that it has largely been a disaster. For the talent in the squad and the new signing, ending the season sans trophies is unacceptable.
The club’s managerial situation ahead of next season is still under a cloud of doubt, though news of Xavi’s continuity has caught steam in recent days. One of the club’s other big dilemmas ahead of the summer concerns a certain Joao Felix.
Future uncertain
Since making the move from Atletico Madrid on loan, Joao Felix has undoubtedly stepped up. His numbers this season cannot be questioned, but the concerning part is his lack of consistency.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the future of Joao Felix at Barcelona is still in doubt. The club would like to sign him on another free loan deal if possible, but that does not appear to suit Atletico Madrid’s agenda.
Felix generates a mixed response from the administration, polarising the members of the club. He can single-handedly decide games on his day, but his inconsistency leaves his future unclear.
Best ever season
As relayed earlier this month, Felix is having his best-ever season in terms of goal contributions at Barcelona.
To date, Felix’s best season came during his 2020-21 campaign with Atletico Madrid where he participated in 16 goals for Los Rojiblancos.
This season, he has scored seven goals and provided three assists in La Liga alone and has racked up a further three goals and an assist in the UEFA Champions League. He also has a goal in the Copa del Rey and an assist in the Spanish Super Cup to his name.
Barcelona’s decision over Felix’s future, needless to say, will depend on their spending ability in the summer transfer window as well as Atletico.
