Arsenal shift focus away from Viktor Gyokeres to Premier League striker

Arsenal have shifted their focus away from Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres as they refine their transfer strategy for the summer.

The Gunners have already strengthened their squad by securing David Raya on a permanent deal and adding Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal are now close to signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, further bolstering Mikel Arteta’s squad for the 2024/25 season. However, the search for a new striker continues.

Although Gyokeres had a stellar season with Sporting Lisbon, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in the 2023/24 campaign, Arsenal are moving away from pursuing him.

Mikel Arteta has already stated that Arsenal are not planning to make another expensive signing this summer after breaking their transfer record to bring in Declan Rice last year.

Arsenal are now shifting their focus to Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke. The striker, who had an impressive 2023/24 season with 19 goals in the Premier League, is valued at £65 million.

Arsenal terget Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke

Solanke, who joined Bournemouth from Liverpool for £19 million in 2019, is reportedly open to a move if a suitable offer comes his way.

However, the Gunners will face competition from a Premier League rival for Dominic Solanke’s signature this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are also interested, as noted by Fabrizio Romano, and are exploring a move for the striker before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

With interest from multiple top clubs, the race for Solanke’s signature is heating up, making for an intriguing conclusion to the summer transfer window.
