Arsenal are seen as the favourites to sign one of their transfer targets in the coming days, with his club preferring to oversee a sale before the end of June.
Arsenal are yet to really get stuck into the market as the Gunners look for the signings they hope will take them across the line in the Premier League title race.
Fortunately, Mikel Arteta has already built a squad which allows him to follow several different paths in the transfer market and wait until the right player comes onto the market at the right price. There is little need for desperation at the Emirates this summer.
And it appears that one potential opportunity could be about to emerge, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Everton favour the idea of selling Amadou Onana before the end of the month.
Arsenal currently seen as favourites to sign Amadou Onana
Of course, clubs are concerned about complying with Profit and Sustainability rules, so it would appear that the Toffees want to put themselves in a stronger position by cashing in on the Belgian sooner rather than later.
Arsenal have reportedly enquired about Onana already this summer. And Mundo Deportivo is now reporting that the Gunners are now seen as the favourites to secure his signature.
The likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also interested.
Gunners fans may have mixed feelings about interest in the Belgian
The big question over Onana is whether he has the ability to step up to that next level after a decent spell at Goodison Park.
At times, the midfielder has looked to be a class above anyone else on the pitch, particularly when he gets into his stride when running with the ball. Sean Dyche has also lauded his ‘terrific’ work-rate in the past, so he offers plenty of versatility.
But he was not exactly a regular starter for Everton in the final weeks of the season, which perhaps highlights that he is not ready for the demands at Arsenal.
And while the Toffees would prefer to sell him in the next couple of weeks, you would imagine that he is not going to be allowed to leave on the cheap. So some Arsenal fans may perhaps prefer that they use their transfer budget elsewhere.
It would be a gamble to make Onana the marquee midfield signing Arsenal make this summer.
