Arsenal have been linked with a move for a forward for much of the summer transfer window. The Gunners may have scored 91 goals in the Premier League last season, but they were spread around the team, with Bukayo Saka the top scorer with 16.
Kai Havertz was brought into the club for £65million from Chelsea last summer and after a slow start became an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. Arteta varied the German’s position, with Havertz someimtes playing up front and sometimes deeper in the midfield.
Another forward is seen as key this summer, but the Gunners are yet to make a move, despite links with a wealth of players. One of those who has been heavily linked is Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sporting CP striker was one of the hottest frontmen in Europe last season, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in 50 matches in all competitions. He was, for all intents and purposes, the Erling Haaland of Liga Portugal.
Given his form and pedigree though, he comes with a hefty price tag. The Swedish international has a release clause of £86million – a price Sporting CP are keen to bring in for their highly-south after striker.
Arsenal are not the only ones linked with a move, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all also interested in bringing the 26-year-old to the Premier League. And Arsenal have made another move to sign him this week it seems.
