Arsenal have been linked with several players across the summer transfer window in a multitude of positions. However, it is the forward line in particular which has been of increased focus for supporters in the sense of a real desperation to see the club sign a top striker.
Despite this desire, this looks to be the area where investment looks the least likely at this stage.
Yet the knowledge of a push to sign a striker has not been met with a predominance of identifiable targets. Therefore, there is a possibility that a striker might not be signed this summer and fans will have to make their peace with that.
Eddie Nketiah is of course tied into this too as negotiations with Marseille have so far been unable to find an agreement. The player is open to the move, however sporting director Edu Gaspar is rightfully holding out for the figure the club believe to be the player’s valuation.
Should Nketiah leave, that might have an impact on the club’s determination to add a striker but it is by no means a guarantee. Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard are all existing options for the club in the role and there is a greater need on the wing.
Bukayo Saka is the only natural left-footed right winger in the squad. Fabio Vieira has been shoehorned into the role in pre-season, Reiss Nelson has been used there and youngster Ethan Nwaneri given a chance too despite all their natural roles lying elsewhere.
