Arsenal have new Benjamin Sesko transfer timeline and secret weapon amid release clause reality

Arsenal could still complete a transfer for Benjamin Sesko despite the striker committing his immediate future to RB Leipzig. The Gunners, Chelsea and Manchester United were all interested in signing the Slovenia international. however he decided to snub a Premier League move in favour of staying in Germany.

On Wednesday morning, Sesko’s new deal was announced by Leipzig with the striker also commenting on what led to his decision. “I had a good first year at RB Leipzig and am incredibly happy to be here,” he told the club’s official website.

“Team, club, city, fans – the overall package is simply outstanding for me. The early contract extension was therefore the logical next step for me. Even though I didn’t play or score as much in the first half of the season, this phase was very important for me and my development.

“I feel a lot of trust and appreciation throughout the club and that is crucial for being able to perform to my full potential. In the second half of the season in particular, I was able to give something back with my goals.” As a result of his decision to remain in Germany, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta looks to have changed his transfer plans with the acquisition of a winger now considered a priority.

Though he will not be going anywhere soon, a future move to Emirates Stadium for Sesko cannot be ruled out with The Athletic suggesting the club may be in a better position to sign him next summer. The north Londoners now have time to resolve the uncertain futures of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah with also more time to determine Kai Havertz’s best position.

From the brief negotiations held over the last few weeks though, Arsenal have at least got something out of it with it noted their relationship with Sesko’s camp is strong. However, with no release clause appearing to be in the terms of his new deal, one good season could see his price sky-rocket from the previously affordable £55million.

While Arsenal held the advantage this summer, it is entirely possible that Chelsea or Manchester United become a more attractive option for Sesko down the line. In 12 months time, Arsenal could have also moved on from Sesko with a potentially more appealing opportunity coming to light
