Arsenal given ‘dream’ Victor Osimhen and Nico Williams transfer verdict amid Ollie Watkins links

Arsenal have been linked with plenty of players this summer as Mikel Arteta plots another Premier League title charge, bidding to beat former boss Pep Guardiola and Manchester City at the third time of asking.

The Gunners came close in each of the last two campaigns, losing out by five points in 2022/23 and two points in 2023/24. It speaks volumes about the job Arteta has done in north London in just under five years that his side are now thought of as serious competitors, both in England and Europe.

But time stands still for no man, and becoming a top team means the need to evolve continues. While Arsenal’s attack produced a stunning 91 league goals last season, the club continue to be linked with top attacking talent.

The list of players apparently under consideration at the Emirates Stadium is seemingly endless, though Nico Williams, Victor Osimhen and Ollie Watkins are all regulars in the gossip columns. But which one, if any should they sign?

As part of bet365’s Euro 2024 coverage, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit said: “Arsenal’s dream signing this summer would be Nico Williams.

“I’ve been watching him in Spain with his club, but he has impressed me a lot during Euro 2024, especially against Italy. It was a nightmare for the right back.

“I think this guy could have a huge impact at Arsenal.

“People have also mentioned Benjamin Sesko, but I think Arsenal need to look at Victor Osimhen at Napoli, this guy has all the character he needs to thrive.

“He’s got great ambition and when I mention his character, he reminds me of players who were in the Premier League back in the day, huge characters.

“He will work incredibly hard on the pitch and Arsenal are desperate to get a real striker. Osimhen can hold two central defenders easily. He can play on the ground, he can play in the air. It will be important as well on set pieces.

“He would add quality to Mikel Arteta’s team.”

Meanwhile, former Gunners captain William Gallas identified England star Ollie Watkins as his preferred target following his goalscoring heroics in the Three Lions’ 2-1 win over Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final, amid hopes of a “magnificent” link up with current Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.
