Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has left the club and joined Spanish club Sevilla on loan until the end of the season. There is a purchase clause included £10million with the view of a sell-on clause should the move be made permanent.
Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021 but struggled to get regular minutes for the club except when Thomas Partey was out injured. The arrivals of Jorginho and Declan Rice have sense made it incredibly difficult for the player to find his way back following spells on loan with both Crystal Palace and Luton Town.
The player was made aware upon his return from Luton this summer that there was not a place for him in Mikel Arteta’s side and the club have worked to find the best solution. Arsenal will hope this is a successful spell away from the club and that the clause is indeed activated.
“For me, I had a discussion with Arsenal and the conclusion was the best thing for me was to leave the club, so now it’s up to my agent and the club to find something,” he told BBC Counties Radio in May. “I still have a contract there, one year plus a one-year option so let’s see what happens.”
Less than two months later and now his move away from north London has been confirmed. Arsenal are still in the market and see the central midfield as a priority.
