Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has departed from the Italy national team camp following an injury sustained during their 3-1 victory over France on Friday night. Calafiori’s injury occurred in an unfortunate incident when Ousmane Dembélé landed on his ankle after being tackled.
Immediate concern was evident among Calafiori’s teammates, who promptly signalled for the physio. The medical staff took no risks and substituted him off the pitch while Italy were leading 3-1.
Following the match, Italy manager Luciano Spalletti addressed the situation, trying to ease concerns. “We need to assess Riccardo, but with our staff, we have a good chance of having him back for the next game,” Spalletti said. However, Calafiori has now left the Italy camp and returned to London to undergo further assessment by Arsenal’s medical team.
