Arsenal’s Declan Rice opted to be respectful after scoring for England against the Republic of Ireland in Nations League action. The 25-year-old represented Ireland at youth level and even made three appearances in friendly fixtures, but having not made a competitive appearance, was able to change his allegiance to the Three Lions.
Over the last few years, Rice has been a staple of England’s midfield under Gareth Southgate and that looks set to continue under interim boss Lee Carsley. After being named in the starting XI to face Ireland, Rice was quickly thrusted into the action as he smashed England into the lead after just 11 minutes.
