Whilst it seems unlikely, perhaps Arteta may actually be tempted to use Calafiori in a back three against Tottenham.
Arsenal are missing Rice because of the ‘ridiculous’ decision to send him off for a second yellow card against Brighton, and perhaps operating with one less midfielder could be a solution.
Calafiori could play alongside Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in a back three, with Ben White and Jurrien Timber operating as full-backs.
As stated, Arteta is unlikely to ring the changes to that extent, but it’s certainly nice to have the option.
Just like Timber was intended to do so last season, Calafiori provides so much versatility for Arteta, an excellent signing all in all.
