Danny Murphy delivers bold verdict on Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United started their 2024-25 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Friday.

Newcomer Joshua Zirkzee grabbed the headlines as he came off the bench to fire the winner in the 87th minute.

It was a wonderful start for the Netherlands international after his move to Old Trafford in a deal worth more than €40 million.

However, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy says United still need to strengthen their attack.

He wrote in his column for the Mail On Sunday (August 18, page 98): “Joshua Zirkzee has made a dream start at Manchester United and looks a wonderful talent.

But, sorry to disappoint United fans, he is not going to be the answer to their goalscoring problems.

Man United have added several top talents to the squad in the 2024 summer transfer window.

However, injuries have once again become problematic. Newcomer Leny Yoro picked up a knock during pre-season and has been ruled out for three months.

Hojlund will also be unavailable until late September as he is recovering from a thigh issue.

Luke Shaw suffered a calf injury in training and is not expected to be back until after the season’s first international break.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last term as they couldn’t start their best team due to injuries to key players.

They are already dealing with several injury problems. All this is very concerning for the fans who are hoping for a big comeback from their team this season.
